Product Details

The Astro Hutech/Hinode 1.8 x 40 binoculars provide ultra-wide-field views of the night sky, letting you take in entire constellations while giving you a visual boost of about 1.5 magnitudes over your unaided eye. Based on the design of a Galilean telescope, these instruments use a three-element lens that gives an upright image without using bulky prisms. And with a weight of just 180g, they are ideal for enjoying longer observing sessions without fatigue.

Unlike standard binoculars and telescopes, the field of view you see with this instrument depends on the position of your eye. The closer you get your eye to the eyepiece, the wider the field you will see. The nominal field of view of these binoculars is 24 degrees when your eye is 16mm from the eyepiece lens and nearly 30 degrees at 5mm.

With these relatively simple Galilean optics, you will notice some distortion at the edge of the field of view, but the on-axis images are quite sharp. These instruments are ideal for sweeping the night sky, especially along the Milky Way, especially away from urban light pollution.

The Hinode 1.8 x40 binoculars also feature a modular mechanical design which allows you to separate the barrels into two ultraportable monocular viewers, ideal for sharing with another observer.
