Product Details

While Rokinon and Samyang’s 135mm F/2 lenses are some of the most excellent performers for astrophotography, being a part of the lens world means a lack of hardware to mount to a conventional astrophotography mount. Additionally, you are unable to utilize common ASCOM compatible focusers because of the helical focuser design. This extremely efficient all-in-one system packs unparalleled effectiveness in a compact package. As well as rings that snugly secure your optics in place, the Astronetics 135 V2.0 includes a bracket for the renowned ZWO EAF and a flat surface built for the popular ZWO ASIAIR Pro/Plus (Or other devices such as Mini PCs, USB Hubs, Pegasus Astro Pocket Power Box, etc). Additionally, a standard guidescope mounting rail is fixed above the rings.

Version two of this system has made numerous improvements over the first iteration. Firstly, the ZWO EAF bracket has been relocated to below the rear ring, negating any potential issues with flexure as well as assisting with balance of the rig. Also, the belt and pulley system has been replaced with virtually backlash-free meshing gears to make the product more compact and to eliminate the problem of belt tension - these gears also have a faster ratio, allowing you to focus in a shorter time with plenty of torque left to spare! With the added features of hinges in the rings and the gears, rotation is as effortless as loosening the thumbscrews, opening the rings, and closing it right back up! This task is significantly more difficult and tedious with a belt and pulley system, as one of the two needs to be removed from the system to rotate. Finally, other minor improvements are a larger ZWO ASIAIR (etc.) mounting surface that sits flush against the rings, larger thumbscrews to give your hands more torque, and a longer guidescope rail to prevent any conflict with a filter wheel on the back (still limited by guidescope size).

All components are printed in durable PETG plastic, which will withstand temperatures up to 90°C/194°F. The holes contain metal threaded inserts, which prevent stripping of the holes, allowing for frequent assembly and disassembly of the mounting system.

Important notes:

  • Please note that this is a 3d printed product typically made of a plastic material (see item description above for the exact material used).
  • The cosmetic finish on 3d printed items will vary and will not be as polished or smooth as metal items. It is not uncommon to have imperfections such as scratches, scuff marks, or inconsistent surface finish. However, these have no functional impact on the use of the item.
  • 3d printed items should not be subject to very high operating temperatures (for example, left in storage in hot sheds, cars, etc.) and exposure to sunlight should be minimized.
  • Notes on some commonly used 3d printing materials:
    • PLA: Most commonly used material in 3d printing; derived from corn or sugarcane so is biodegradable; basic PLA should not be exposed to over 125° F and exposure to sunlight should be minimized; available in custom formulations that can withstand higher temperatures and solar exposure.
    • PETG: Another very popular 3d printing material; has smoother surface finish; water resistant; should not be exposed to temperatures usually above 160° F.
    • TPU: More expensive but more durable; is elastic and resistant to low temperatures, abrasion, oil, chemicals and wearing; can withstand ambient temperatures up to 175º F
    • ABS: A strong material used for strong and durable parts; able to withstand temperatures of up to 200º F
