The Sky Surfer V is a premium red dot finder from Baader Planetarium. Originally designed for military use, this shock resistant and water-resistant finder is built like a tank and will stand up to years of serious field use. It’s been thoughtfully designed for astronomical, terrestrial, and solar observation with nearly any telescope.
Made of black anodized metal, the Sky Surfer V features a large clear aperture and the optical elements are fully multi-coated to give a clear, bright view of the sky and stars. The finder includes removable 35mm-long dew shields before and after the optics to prevent fogging on humid nights and keep stray light out of the optical path.
Flip the front and back covers open and the Sky Surfer V is a premium red-dot finder for astronomical and terrestrial sighting. Close both covers and it transforms into a “camera obscura” solar finder that projects sunlight from a 0.7mm pinhole in the front cover onto a rear, opaque cross-hair reticle that includes a yellow UV-blocking filter to protect against accidental straight-through viewing. It’s two premium finders in one package!
The Sky Surfer V produces a tight and razor-sharp red dot just 2’ (arc-minutes) across that’s easy to see in all conditions. A rotatable switch lets you select from 11 brightness settings, and set screws with large knobs allow for easy altitude and azimuth adjustments to align the finder to your telescope’s optical axis.
The Sky Surfer V includes a mounting base that fits most Celestron, Sky-Watcher, Vixen, and many other telescopes. It also includes a riser block that gives plenty of "face-space" between telescope and finder for comfortable use, even with Newtonian telescopes. It can also be configured to a low-profile position that’s ideal for Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.
The Sky Surfer V weighs 310g, and the base weighs 55g.
The finder uses a single CR-2032 lithium battery.
