This premium 106 mm f/6 apochromatic triplet refractor from Founder Optics is designed to deliver razor-sharp and color-free images for astrophotographers and visual observers. The objective includes two ED elements and, unlike most refractors on the market, all three lens components are widely spaced. This ‘Super Triplet’ design is found in only one other line of telescopes, the venerable Takahashi TOA series.
The Founder Optics FOT106 has a focal length of 636 mm and a fast focal ratio of f/6. The scope includes a dedicated field flattener that’s compatible with both DSLR and mirrorless cameras and dedicated astronomy cameras up to a full-frame sensor size. The flattener comes with M42/T threads and includes an M48x0.75 adapter for the camera side.
This Founder Optics scope includes a 360-degree rotatable 2.7" hybrid rack-and-pinion dual speed focuser with a 11:1 focus ratio and a twist lock. It also includes a built-in focus lock knob and handles a load up to 8kg.
The FOT106 also include a full range of accessories including a thread-on objective lens cover, two heavy-duty machined tube rings and a carry handle that accommodates a red-dot finder, a sturdy machined Vixen style dovetail bar for easy mount attachment, and a dovetail finder scope base on the focuser. It also comes with a hard carry case with a custom die-cut foam insert to help with safe transport and convenient storage.
As an indication of the rigor of optical design and manufacture, each Founder Optics telescope comes with a Ronchi test and optical test certificate matched to the telescope’s serial number.
Notes:
- The ZWO EAF cannot be mounted on this scope's focuser as the large focus lock knob gets in the way.
- The focus lock knob is useful for tightening the focuser drawtube but is not a 100% lock as claimed by the manufacturer.
- The female thread on the 2" nosepiece of the included flattener is M48x0.6. This can only accept Orion brand filters which use this thread. You cannot use this end with filters made by others that use the standard M48x0.75 thread.
