Product Details

Lumicon's low-profile 2" Newtonian/Refractor Easy-Guider # LG1015 is one of the most powerful astrophotography accessories available today. The Lumicon Newtonian Easy-Guider incorporates a unique, patented, radial adjustment for finding bright, off-axis guide-stars. The 2" Newtonian Easy-Guider features a large pick-off prism, making bright guide-star selection a breeze.

The LG1015 drops into 2" eyepiece holders. It uses your telescope's optics directly for pinpoint guiding accuracy. This method is superior to using guide-scopes, which can flex with respect to your main telescope. The compact design of the Lumicon Newtonian/Refractor Easy-Guider allows for installation in seconds. The 2" Newtonian/Refractor Easy-Guider requires 0.85" of back-focus.

Notes: For use with SLR cameras; digital imagers may require an extension piece. The following accessories are required for photography: A guiding (reticle) eyepiece (or auto-guider) and a camera-specific T-ring.

Lumicon Easy Guider FAQs:

Q: Will a Lumicon Newtonian Easy Guider work with my telescope?

A: To determine the compatibility of the Lumicon Newtonian Easy Guider with your Newtonian telescope, remove the eyepiece and rack the focuser all the way in. Determine where the focal plane is by holding a white piece of paper away from the eyepiece holder during daylight. Measure the distance from the end of the eyepiece holder to the focal plane. Subtract 0.85" for the 2" Easy Guider; subtract 0.5" for the 1.25" Easy Guider. Next, subtract the distance from your camera's T-ring adapter to the film plane. If the result is a positive number, the Lumicon Easy Guider will work on your Newtonian without modification.

Q: Is the Lumicon Giant Easy Guider compatible with all large-format (> 9.25") SCTs?

A: Yes, except for the Meade LX-series 14".

Q: Is the focal reducing lens of the Lumicion Cassegrain Easy Guider compatible with f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrains?

A: Not perfectly, since the correction factor of the lens, while excellent for use with f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrains, is not enough to prevent aberrations when used at f/6.3 to produce an f/4 focal ratio.

Q: Why does the Lumicon Newtonian Easy Guider not come with a focal reducing lens?

A: Most Newtonian telescopes have moderate focal ratios that do not require reduction. Also, reducing the focal ratio on Newtonians tends to introduce other problems.

Q: What adapters come with the Lumicon Easy Guider?

A: All Lumicon Easy Guiders come with telescope adapters (except for the Newtonian/Refractors Easy Guiders . . . which fit right into the 2" or 1.25" eyepiece holder), and a T-ring adapter. A camera-specific T-ring, however, must be provided by the customer, or purchased separately.

Q: What else do I need for Lumicon Easy Guider photography?

A: A 1.25" PRISM diagonal for Cassegrain/Giant Easy Guiders, and a 12.5" illuminated cross-hair eyepiece, or autoguider.
