About Optolong's L-Pro Filter
The Optolong L-Pro (L-Professional) filter is designed to improve the visibility of various deep sky objects by selectively reducing the transmission wavelengths of light pollution, specifically those produced by artificial lighting including mercury vapor lights, both high & low pressure sodium vapor lights and the unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in our atmosphere (i.e. skyglow). Together with the main nebula emission lines at OIII(496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII(654nm and 658nm), H-alpha(656nm) as well as SII(672nm), this filter is suitable for enhancing the contrast and details for both visual and photographic purposes in sub-rural areas with heavy light pollution.
The L-Pro is multi-bandpass filter which offers better color balance by maximizing the transmission band. The balanced transmission allows astrophotos to be taken with minimal color cast to broadband emission objects such as galaxies, reflection nebulae and globular star clusters. L-Pro is the best choice for light pollution suppression.
L-Pro Main Use and Performance
- Suitable for visual observation and astrophotography.
- L-Pro filter allows for imaging of full spectrum deep sky objects such as galaxies, reflection nebulae and globular star clusters while also suppressing light pollution sources. The same holds true for visual observations.
- L-Pro filter alone can suppress infrared wavelengths and can be used for “Luminance” imaging with CCD and CMOS cameras. The L-Pro filter does not eliminate the effects of light pollution or increase the object’s brightness. It will increase the contrast between nebulae and the night sky.
L-Pro Compatible Cameras and Lens
- Applicable camera body: Z5 / Z6 / Z6II / Z7 / Z7II / Z8 / Z9 / ZF
- Applicable lenses: All Z series lenses can be used. All F-mount lenses can be used (adapter is required)
- Note: Because of the specialty of the mirrorless optical path and diaphragm design, as well as the incident angle of light, there may be slight vignetting. The L-Pro is recommended for 50mm or above. If using a wide-angle lens, the edges of the frame will need to be cropped or corrected in post processing due to vignetting.
