1. QHY 16.2 Megapixel CCD Monochrome Astronomy Camera

The QHY16200A uses the ONSEMI 16.2MP KAF-16200 CCD. The APS-H format is suitable for most telescopes, including SCT's that cannot fully illuminate a 35mm frame without some vignetting or distortion at the edges. It is also suitable for commonly available 2-inch filters. The larger sensor size provides nearly twice as many pixels as the popular KAF-8300. The QE is similar to or higher than 8300 and the 37ke- full well capacity is almost 50% greater than the 8300's 25.5ke-. yielding a dynamic range about 1.5X greater than the 8300.

The effective image area of the sensor is 27mm x 21.6mm. Compared to the QHY8L APS-C format of 23.4 x 15.8, the APS-H sensor is significantly larger with over 50% more image area. The APS-H size mono sensor fills the gap in size between the KAF8300 (4/3inch) and the KAI-11002 (35mm format).

2. All-in-One Configuration Includes Filter Wheel and OAG Support

The letter "A" is used by QHYCCD to designate a camera that is an integrated (ALL-IN-ONE) camera equipped with the essential integrated features needed for astrophotography. The QHY16200A has a built-in seven-position motor-driven filter wheel that holds 36mm round unmounted filters. An entire set of LRGB Ha, OIII, and SII can be loaded at one time, which avoids the trouble of having to disassemble the filter wheel each time you want to change your filter group. The camera also supports integration with a QHYOAG off-axis guider using six M3 screw holes while taking up minimal back focus. (Off-axis guider is sold separately).

3. Integrated Control

The A-series cameras have a USB host interface that can be connected to a guide camera. Two serial ports are available for the equatorial mount and the electric focuser. Control of the camera, mount, guide camera and focuser can be managed through a single USB connection to your computer.

The QHY16200A uses a single 12V power cord that can be secured with a threaded lock nut. It also has a 12V output socket that can power peripherals directly from the camera.

4. Butterfly Shutter for Uniform Illumination and Long Life

The QHY16200A camera uses a mechanical shutter that has the shape of a butterfly. This provides even illumination as the shutter sweeps across the sensor to begin or end an exposure. The shutter is driven directly by the motor and has no other moving parts, making its working life almost unlimited.

5. Two-Stage TEC cooling and External Trigger

Integrated two-Stage cooling reduces the temperature of the CCD chip to 45 degrees C below ambient, resulting in very low thermal noise and a clean, long exposure.

The QHY16200A also has an external trigger in/out port for exposure timing or synchronizing the start of exposure.
