1. Cooled One-Shot Color Astronomy Camera for Deep-Sky Imaging
The QHY8L is a 6 Megapixel one-shot color camera with an APS-C Sony ICX413AQ Super HAD CCD sensor. The ICX413AQ is a solid-state interline imaging sensor with a 28.4mm diagonal array of large 7.8um pixels. The sensor achieves high sensitivity and low dark current through the adoption of R, G, and B primary color mosaic filters and HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) sensors.
The QHY8L also has very low read noise, typically 6 or 7e-. In a dark site it offers the user a simple and easy way to capture deep sky objects in full color without the need, complexity and cost of RGB filters and filter wheel. Image processing can likewise be simplified compared to separate processing and combining of LRGB frames.
2. Two-Stage Cooling for Low Noise and Purged Chamber to Keep Sensor Dry
SONY's CCD sensors are famous for their low thermal noise, and the effect of this noise is further reduced in the QHY8L with two-stage TEC cooling and thermal construction design. The QHY8L has the cooling capability of -40C below ambient. This results in the production of very clean images even in exposures of 30 minutes to one hour.
The line clamp on the camera helps maintain cables, and the drying tube is used to purge the CCD chamber of moisture that might develop over long term use of the camera.
3. Classic Narrow-Profile Design Ideal for Hyperstar Configurations
The QHY8L camera body has a diameter of only 63mm only, making it ideally suited for Hyperstar imaging. It also comes with a cable clip for solid connections. You do not need to worry about contact problems with the USB cable or power cable. The cameras are all equipped a standard RJ11 guiding port compatible with a majority of mounts.
The outer camera body finish is matte black to avoid reflection when used in Hyperstar configurations.
