ZWO 8-position Electronic Filter Wheel: Meet the 2025 Generation!
Introducing ZWOs newest lineup of precision Electronic Filter Wheels (EFW), with refined exterior and interior design! Re-engineered with a concentration on eliminating light leaks, while keeping the EFWs lightweight aluminum alloy construction to minimize unnecessary strain on your imaging train. The new ZWO 8x1.25 EFW supports the same effortless integration with your favorite imaging software, but replaces the outdated USB Type-B with a modern USB Type-C interface for a more reliable connection. The 2025 EFWs maintain hands-free motorized filter rotation, delivering the fully automated control these filter wheels are known to provide!
With a thickness of 20 mm (0.79 in), this EFW carousel holds 8 filters with a diameter of 1.25-inch or 31mm (filters not included). All ZWO 1.25-inch or 31mm filters are supported by the 2025 EFW, but if you use filters from third parties, please make sure that the thickness of the filter is not less than 1.8 mm. This new generation of EFW features well-loved classic functions, with thoughtful new additions like: dual light-blocking pads, fully enclosed motor, upgraded seal structure, modern interface, all in a lightweight construction! No drivers installation or power cables needed, a true plug-and-play design.
Standout Upgrades
Why Choose the New ZWO EFW
Anti Light-Leak Design
The new generation of ZWO EFW introduces structural seals, eliminating stray light from all directions! Newly added light-blocking pads on both lateral connections create uniform frames, and the fully enclosed motor aids in weather resistance for more stable use over time.
Hands-Free Filter Control
When paired with the ZWO ASIAIR (sold separately) you can unlock fully automatic filter changing throughout your planned imaging sessions. This effortless incorporation allows your setup to transition between filters on its own, giving you fully unattended and stress-free astrophotography!
Type-C Connection
ZWO has replaced the USB Type-B connector, in the older EFWs models, with an up-to-date USB Type-C interface. Providing a more robust, reliable connection and simplifying plug-and-lay integration with your imaging setup.
Optimized Anti-Light Leak Design
In deep-sky imaging, even a small amount of stray light can compromise your final image. This newest generation of ZWO EFWs focused on eliminating this issue. A redesigned slot-fit housing created a tighter seal between the top and bottom covers, while the newly added pads at both connection points provide an additional optical barrier for cleaner, more uniform frames during long exposures. The fully sealed motor compartment is further isolated and adds improved weather resistance, giving you greater reliability and longer operational lifespan!
Modern USB-C, Modern Build
Utilizing a CNC-machined aluminum alloy body for a lighter, more rigid structure! The internal filter carousel is made from 606l aluminum alloy, reducing weight while maintaining strength and stability. The result is a compact, durable design engineered for smooth, reliable operation. The body also replaces the older Type-B connection with the modern USB-C interface, providing a simplified plug-and-play integration with your imaging setup!
Stable & Durable
ZWO equipped the new EFWs with a high-precision stepper motor, ensuring consistent rotation and stable operation across extended imaging sessions.
Automated Filter Switching
Featuring a motorized, bidirectional filter-wheel drive with precise position indexing. When paired with control software such as the ZWO ASIAIR (sold separately), it enables automatic filter changes during a scheduled imaging session for fully unattended, hands-free astrophotography!
