Easy Adjust Heavy-Duty Guidescope Mount
The Agena Deluxe Guidescope Mount is a heavy-duty adjustable alt-az mounting platform designed to help astrophotographers precisely align a guide scope or secondary optical tube with their main telescope. Instead of relying on traditional guide rings that use adjustment screws against the guide scope tube, this mount gives users a more controlled way to aim the guide scope while keeping the main imaging telescope fixed on target. Its robust design and 6-point locking system make it useful for setups that need a secure, repeatable alignment platform during long-exposure imaging.
On the guide scope side, the mount provides a screw-based top mounting plate for attaching a compatible guide scope assembly, small optical tube setup, or user-supplied saddle/clamp. Creating an easy to use quick-release system when paired with the appropriate clamp or saddle hardware. We recommend the Agena V Series Vixen-Style Dovetail Saddle (Silver) - 87mm (3.4") Length, which attaches via the outermost bolts. This allows the guide scope assembly to be attached and removed more easily while maintaining a rigid connection to the main telescope. On the telescope side, the base is designed for piggyback-style installation onto a suitable rail, dovetail, mounting plate, or telescope accessory surface.
Once installed, the guide scope can be aimed using separate altitude and azimuth adjustment controls. The user secures the guide scope assembly or saddle to the top mounting plate, points the main telescope at the imaging target, then adjusts the guidescope mount until a suitable guide star is centered in the guide camera’s field of view. After alignment, the locking points help hold the selected position in place, making it easier to begin autoguiding while keeping the primary telescope locked on the intended target.
