IDAS/IDASmio NGS1 (ex LPS-D3): The Worlds First Night Glow Suppression Filter!
The NGS1 is the world's first filter engineered to suppress both man-made light pollution and natural nightglow across the green, orange, and red spectrums.
Night Glow: OI (557.7nm, 630.0nm, 636.4nm), NaI (589.0nm, 589.6nm)
The IDAS NGS1 light pollution filter maximizes the transmission of light from various emission nebulae, the C2 gas emissions in comet heads, and the CO+ plasma emissions in comet tails, while still preserving broad continuous-spectrum cosmic details. To accommodate ultra-fast optics, its passbands are intentionally shifted slightly toward the longer wavelength side. This smart design compensates for the natural "blue-shift" (where light shifts toward shorter wavelengths) that typically occurs when light strikes a thin-film interference filter at an angle. As a result, the NGS1 maintains full transmission of critical nebular emission lines even when used with steep incoming light angles up to 14 degrees or ultra-fast lenses running at f/2 or even f/1.4. Please note: The drop-in mounted filter holder is not included in the DRT filter purchase.
The NGS1 is highly effective at cutting out light pollution from legacy low-pressure and high-pressure sodium lamps.

IGAD Coatings
The NGS1 filter utilizes advanced IGAD (Ion-Gun Assisted Deposition) coating technology, a proven process featured across the IDAS light pollution filter lineup. This technology densifies the interference multi-layers, providing superior physical and optical properties that traditional coating methods simply cannot match.
-
Exceptional Durability: The resilient thin-film layers achieve a hardness comparable to quartz glass, maximizing scratch resistance.
-
Superior Adherence: The bond between the glass substrate and the optical multi-layers is tremendously reinforced, preventing delamination.
-
Rock-Solid Stability: The filter exhibits virtually zero drift or aging variation in its spectral performance due to temperature or humidity fluctuations, ensuring consistent results in any standard environment.

NGS1 Placed Before Lens
Use a lens having the light incidence angle of 14 degrees or lower (field angle of 34 degrees or lower).
- This product is an interference filter. Its spectrum characteristics will be subject to the incidence of incoming light. Please carefully read the following few features carefully for proper use.
NGS1 Placed Between Lens (applies to IDASmio filters)
When your camera is equipped with an APS-C image sensor and uses a lens with a *back focal distance of 40mm or greater and F value of two or faster, it is possible to hold down the maximum averaged incidence angle of the incoming light ray against the filter within about 14° . Under the conditions of the above mentioned camera, there will be almost no field angle requirements for the lens to be used.
*Please note: the smaller the diameter of the rear lens element, the more likely the maximum averaged incidence angle would exceed 14° where the transmittance of nebula emission lines could be deteriorated around the peripheral of the image.

NightGlow Visual Representation
Orange Night Glow

"I happened to come across orange night glow in October, 2007 at the northenr sea coast of Niigata Pref. The bearing is north west as the Swan was going to set. I need to be cautious of night glow occurrence at all time esepecially during the shooting." - Mr. Shigemi Numasawa
Green Night Glow

"I came across green night glow in May, 2012 in Utah, USA. Pale green light expands towards South East. I had not noticed it at all during the shooting, but came to find this glow when I opened this image on my laptop at a later date." - Mr. Shigemi Numasawa
