Product Details
ZWO’s ASI290 Mini camera may be small, but it is mighty. An ideal guide camera or compact planetary imager, the ASI290 Mini uses a 2.1 megapixel monochrome sensor with high QE and low read noise to give an outstanding level of performance despite its compact size. With a smaller sensor than the ASI174 Mini camera, the ASI290 Mini is more affordable and works well with a small guide scope.
The ASI290 Mini incorporates a 1/3” sensor (5.6mmx3.2mm) with 1936x1096 resolution and small 2.9 micron pixels. The small pixel size results in more precise guiding because the camera can detect smaller deviations in guide star position during an exposure. The camera has, for example, about 30% better guiding precision than the ZWO ASI120-series cameras. And with a peak QE of 80% with a read noise of just 1.0e, the ASI290 Mini can detect plenty of potential guide stars in the field of view of a small guide scope.
The ASI290 Mini weighs just 3.1oz and has a diameter of 36mm. The main body of the camera slips into a 1.25” focuser and includes a M28.5X0.6 female thread. The camera uses a small Type C USB2.0 interface, the same type of connector used by many cell phones, and its ST4 port enables direct connection to the autoguiding port on the telescope mount.
ZWO has phased out software CDs, but this camera comes with instructions to download the required control software and drivers directly from the ZWO website.
