Astrophotography: Capturing the beauty of the Earth and the universe in a single photograph, with the starry sky as a complete landscape.
Capturing the beauty of Earth and the universe in a single photograph, with the starry sky as a complete landscape...
Polarie U expands the world of astrophotography, allowing anyone to experience the joy of photography.
"Astrophotography" is a type of photography that captures stars and scenery together, such as the Milky Way stretching across the sky and mountains, or constellations and buildings. Unlike "astrophotography," which zooms in on a single point in the night sky, "astrophotography" primarily uses wide-angle lenses, and the key is how to combine stars and scenery. The possibilities for composition are endless, making it a new genre of landscape photography that anyone can easily enjoy.
The Polarie U (WT) star tracker is a motor-driven camera mount that moves in sync with the movement of stars. By mounting the Polarie U and camera on a tripod, you can capture stars as sharp points of light in your photographs.

Significant weight reduction of over 20% and improved load capacity.
By redesigning the structure, including increasing the distance between the two bearings supporting the rotating shaft by approximately four times compared to conventional models, we have achieved a significant improvement in load capacity while reducing the weight of the main unit by more than 20% compared to conventional products. *1
For use in astrophotography and deep-sky photography, it has a load capacity of 2.5kg (approximately 2.5kg at 10cm from the fixed point), and by using reinforcement options (sold separately) such as the Polarie Multi-Head Base and Slide Head Plate DD, it can support a maximum load of approximately 6.5kg (approximately 6.5kg at 10cm from the fixed point).
Furthermore, when used for time-lapse photography, it achieves a load capacity of 10kg (approximately 10kg at 10cm from the stationary point), making it compatible with large equipment. *2

*2: When setting up for time-lapse photography, when the Polarie U is set up horizontally using the spirit level equipped on it.

Customization settings on your smartphone
Equipped with communication functions via an app, various customization settings can be made from a smartphone or tablet. When shooting the night sky, you can finely adjust the tracking speed (custom mode), and when setting up time-lapse, you can adjust the interval time, exposure time, and rotation speed, allowing you to enjoy a wide range of shooting possibilities.
To change the settings, you will need a communication device capable of connecting to Wi-Fi, such as a smartphone, and the application software.

5 Tracking Modes
- Astrophotography Mode (1/2x Speed Tracking) ... For shooting landscapes with stars. It rotates at half the speed of the stars' diurnal motion. This doubles the time you can spend shooting, allowing you to capture stars as points of light while keeping the landscape sharp.
- Star Tracking Mode (Sidereal Tracking) ... For photographing constellations, the Milky Way, nebulae, and other celestial objects. Because it operates in accordance with the diurnal motion of stars, it can capture even faint stars clearly.
- Solar tracking mode… For capturing the mystical phenomenon of a solar eclipse.
- Moon tracking mode… For photographing the moon.
- Custom Mode… Operates at a user-defined celestial tracking speed.
* *The desired speed must be set in the external settings mode beforehand (default setting is 4x speed). A Wi-Fi-enabled communication device and application software are required.

Equipped with a camera-linked SMS (Shoot, Move, Shoot) function.
The Polarie U now features an SMS function that stops the camera's operation during exposure and resumes it after the exposure is complete. It can also be used as a time-lapse rotator, ensuring high precision for each individual frame, regardless of whether it's daytime or nighttime.
It also features a camera terminal (release terminal) to control the camera's shutter during SMS function and interval shooting. If your camera has a bulb function and a wired release terminal, you can easily adjust these settings from your smartphone by linking the Polarie U with the release.
*This function requires a Wi-Fi enabled communication device such as a smartphone and application software. A cable to connect the camera and Polarie U is also required separately.

Autoguider Terminal
It is compatible with control using commercially available autoguiders (operation in the right ascension direction only).
Pin assignment:

Its portable size, similar to a camera lens, and its stylish exterior design.
Its size and appearance are reminiscent of a camera lens, making it easy to fit into a camera bag and carry compactly. Furthermore, its U-shaped cross-section, which is derived from the product name "Polarie U," is designed to minimize interference regardless of the camera's orientation.

Easy-to-understand power switch and mode display window.
The power switch is positioned so that the direction of operation (Northern Hemisphere/Southern Hemisphere operation) can be visualized by the direction it is slid. Also, immediately after turning on the power, the indicator in the mode display window moves and lights up in the direction of operation.

2-way power supply: batteries & USB external power supply
It operates on four AA batteries. It also has a USB (USB Type-C) external power terminal, so it can be powered by commercially available USB mobile batteries, etc.

Supports a wide range of mounting options, including cameras (camera mounts), astronomical components, and more.
Camera Screw Mount Base: Equipped with a tripod base with a 1/4-inch camera screw. Commercially available camera tripods can be attached.
Compatible with Polarie Multi-Mount Base (sold separately): The standard mount base can be replaced with the Polarie Multi-Mount Base (sold separately) for mounting. By using it in conjunction with the Slide Mount Plate DD (sold separately), it is also compatible with astrophotography using camera telephoto lenses or small astronomical telescopes such as the Vixen FL55SS telescope tube. It is possible to photograph the night sky with a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto.
Compatible with Quick-Release Panorama Clamp (sold separately): By removing some parts such as the tripod head base, you can attach a Quick-Release Panorama Clamp (sold separately). It is also compatible with mounting Arca-Swiss standard plates, etc.

Compatible with a variety of tripods, including those with camera screws (1/4 inch, 3.8 inch) and slim attachment plate standards.
It is equipped with 3/8-inch camera screws on the bottom and back. It also supports 1/4-inch camera screws when used with the included 3/8-inch to 1/4-inch adapter screw (pre-installed on the bottom of the unit at the time of shipment).
Furthermore, by equipping the camera with quick-release bases compatible with slim attachment plate standards in two locations—the bottom and the back—the bottom base can be used for astrophotography, and the back base for time-lapse photography.

Level and compass scale for time-lapse photography
It is equipped with a spirit level that can be used to ensure the Polarie U is level when positioning it horizontally.
It also features a scale with 5-degree intervals to allow you to check the approximate rotation angle during time-lapse photography.

Compatible with a variety of tripods, including those with camera screws (1/4 inch, 3.8 inch) and slim attachment plate standards.

Clear viewfinder (Polaris viewing hole)
A detachable, straight-through finder scope for locating Polaris is included, allowing for easy polar alignment. This is convenient for shooting with wide-angle lenses and other equipment where high-precision polar alignment is not required. It attaches to the accessory shoe.

Compatible with polar axis telescope (sold separately).
By using the PU polar scope arm (sold separately), you can attach the PF-LⅡ polar axis telescope (sold separately). This is suitable for situations where high-precision polar alignment is required, such as when using telephoto lenses for photography.
