WarpAstron WARPDRIVE WD-20E Harmonic Equatorial / AltAz Mount
The WD-20E expands the WARPDRIVE EC Series with a precision-focused drive system built for responsive, consistent tracking. Its proven belt-free Servo Direct Drive architecture pairs with high-resolution absolute feedback at the final RA output axis, allowing the servo motor to drive the strain-wave reducer directly while the encoder measures the true movement of the telescope-carrying axis. This combination delivers direct response, accurate position feedback, and individually verified performance. The WD-20E also includes the new Advanced Hand Controller, featuring a 2-inch OLED touch display, precise Hall-effect joystick, built-in GPS, and wireless connectivity for faster, more intuitive control at the mount. Any telescopes, tripods, cameras or other accessories images are not included with this mount head purchase.
WARPDRIVE WD-20E Standout Features
Extended Guiding Exposure
Lower periodic error gives your guiding system a cleaner signal, so you can safely extend exposure time from 1s to 3s or more.
Less Affected by Conditions
Longer guiding exposures help average out short-term atmospheric seeing fluctuations, preventing the mount from making unnecessary corrections and producing smoother, more consistent tracking.
Adventure Ready
Weighing just 12.5 lb (5.7 kg), the compact WD-20E mount head is easy to transport and set up, making it ideal for backyard imaging or trips to remote dark-sky locations
Complete Wireless Control at Your Fingertips
Manage your mount directly from the controller’s built-in dashboard, with real-time access to coordinates, mount status, slew rate, tracking, pier side, and more. Choose from seven slew speeds, access Home, Reset, Park, Unpark, and solar, lunar, or sidereal tracking modes, or quickly locate Solar System, Messier, NGC, IC, and named objects through the GoTo menu. Built-in GPS supports automatic location and time-zone syncing, while Wi-Fi access-point and Bluetooth settings provide flexible wireless connectivity. You can also monitor input voltage, total load, and power telemetry, configure movement limits and motor-current thresholds, and activate a dimmable red night-vision interface for comfortable use in the dark.
True Axis Feedback with Ultra-Low Periodic Error
An absolute encoder positioned directly on the RA axis output measures the axis’s true position and corrects errors across the entire drive system—not just the strain wave gear. This closed-loop feedback reduces residual periodic error from a typical strain wave gear rating of under ±15 arcseconds to less than ±3 arcseconds, delivering smoother tracking and greater imaging accuracy.
Dual-Encoder Servo Direct Drive
The dual-encoder servo direct-drive system combines a responsive, high-torque servo motor with a near-zero-backlash strain wave gear. An input encoder provides instant corrections, while an output absolute encoder measures the axis’s actual position instead of estimating it from the motor. With no belts or elastic drive components, the system maintains consistent accuracy across changing temperatures and extended use while delivering ultra-low periodic error. Each unit also includes an axis-specific periodic error report for verified performance.
Payload Capacity Built Around Your Setup
The WD-20E supports up to 50 N·m of recommended payload torque without a counterweight, with a maximum limit of 60 N·m. Actual weight capacity depends on how far the payload’s center of gravity sits from the RA axis: compact, closely balanced setups can carry more weight, while longer imaging trains require a lighter payload for optimal tracking performance.
