WarpAstron WARPDRIVE WD-15E: Power Delivered Saddle
The WarpAstron WARPDRIVE WD-15E advances the company’s Servo Direct Drive architecture with an integrated absolute encoder positioned directly on the RA axis output. By combining rapid input-side correction with true output-axis feedback, the mount reduces total periodic error while maintaining the fast response and efficiency of its belt-free drive system. Built-in saddle power ports provide convenient power directly at the telescope, helping simplify cable management and keep imaging setups cleaner. Each WD-15E is individually calibrated using WarpAstron’s proprietary process to provide consistent, verifiable low-periodic-error performance for demanding astrophotography. Any telescopes, tripods, cameras or other accessories images are not included with this mount head purchase.
WARPDRIVE WD-15E Standout Features
Saddle Power
Two PD-capable USB Type-C ports provide convenient power directly from the saddle, helping reduce cable clutter around the mount. With a 24V input, CH1 supports up to 100W (20V/5A) while CH2 supports up to 60W (20V/3A) and can also serve as a USB connection to your PC.
Less Affected by Conditions
Longer guiding exposures help average out short-term atmospheric seeing fluctuations, preventing the mount from making unnecessary corrections and producing smoother, more consistent tracking.
Adventure Ready
Weighing just 6.6 lb (3.0 kg), the compact WD-15E mount head is easy to transport and set up, making it ideal for backyard imaging or trips to remote dark-sky locations
Complete Wireless Control at Your Fingertips
Manage your mount directly from the controller’s built-in dashboard, with real-time access to coordinates, mount status, slew rate, tracking, pier side, and more. Choose from seven slew speeds, access Home, Reset, Park, Unpark, and solar, lunar, or sidereal tracking modes, or quickly locate Solar System, Messier, NGC, IC, and named objects through the GoTo menu. Built-in GPS supports automatic location and time-zone syncing, while Wi-Fi access-point and Bluetooth settings provide flexible wireless connectivity. You can also monitor input voltage, total load, and power telemetry, configure movement limits and motor-current thresholds, and activate a dimmable red night-vision interface for comfortable use in the dark.
True Axis Feedback with Ultra-Low Periodic Error
An absolute encoder positioned directly on the RA axis output measures the axis’s true position and corrects errors across the entire drive system—not just the strain wave gear. This closed-loop feedback reduces residual periodic error from a typical strain wave gear rating of under ±15 arcseconds to less than ±3 arcseconds, delivering smoother tracking and greater imaging accuracy.
Dual-Encoder Servo Direct Drive
The dual-encoder servo direct-drive system combines a responsive, high-torque servo motor with a near-zero-backlash strain wave gear. An input encoder provides instant corrections, while an output absolute encoder measures the axis’s actual position instead of estimating it from the motor. With no belts or elastic drive components, the system maintains consistent accuracy across changing temperatures and extended use while delivering ultra-low periodic error. Each unit also includes an axis-specific periodic error report for verified performance.
Payload Capacity Built Around Your Setup
The WD-15E supports up to 8 N·m of recommended payload torque without a counterweight, with a maximum limit of 10.5 N·m. Actual weight capacity depends on how far the payload’s center of gravity sits from the RA axis: compact, closely balanced setups can carry more weight, while longer imaging trains require a lighter payload for optimal tracking performance.
